The good stuff

The photo feature for devices is weirdly satisfying. I took a pic of my living room lamp and dropped it into the app - now it shows up as a real image instead of a generic icon. Feels personal, like I’m actually managing my space. And the dynamic home screen? It puts your most-used devices right at the top. I use the bedroom lights every night, and they’re literally one tap away. No digging through menus. The TrueImage tech is cool too. I snapped a picture of my wall paint, then matched the light color to it using the double color wheel. Took a few tries, but ended up with a soft amber that actually looked like the actual paint. That kind of precision matters when you’re trying to set a mood. Dark mode is a welcome addition. I don’t want my phone glowing in the dark like a flashlight. This app dims properly, and the interface doesn’t strain my eyes at 11 PM.

The not-so-good

It’s still just an app for Cync/C by GE products. If you have other brands - like Philips Hue or Lutron - this won’t help. You’ll need another app for those. Also, no automation builder yet. Can’t make scenes based on time or motion. Just on/off and brightness. So if you’re into complex routines, you’re stuck elsewhere. And yeah, the developer is listed as unknown. Not a huge deal, but makes me wonder how long this will be supported. Still, the updates feel consistent, so fingers crossed.

Bottom line

If you’ve got Cync or C by GE smart devices, this app is the way to go. It’s clean, intuitive, and handles lighting really well. Free to download, no paywall. For anyone in that ecosystem, it’s a no-brainer. Skip it if you’re using other brands or want advanced automations. But if you’re in the Cync world, this is the only app you need.
