The good stuff

Man, the random level generation really keeps things interesting. I played it three times last week and each run felt totally different. One time I found a cursed dagger that turned my health into a dice roll - hilarious and terrifying. Another time, I accidentally triggered a trap that opened a secret room full of healing potions. No two dungeons are alike, which makes replaying way more fun than most free games I’ve tried. The combat is tight, too - not too slow, not too twitchy. You actually have to think about positioning and timing, especially when facing those shadowy cultists in the lower levels. And yeah, the goal is to grab the Yithidian orb, but honestly, I mostly just enjoy getting lost in the maze and seeing what weird trap or loot shows up next.

The not-so-good

It’s not perfect. The controls are a little stiff at first - I kept bumping into walls because I forgot how to strafe. Took a few tries to get used to the movement. Also, no save points. If you die, you start over from the beginning. That’s kind of brutal if you’ve spent 30 minutes grinding through a floor. There’s also no tutorial beyond “go down stairs.” I ended up dying to a single goblin in the first corridor because I didn’t know I could dodge left. A tiny bit more hand-holding would help new players. And hey, it’s free, so I can’t complain too hard - but don’t expect polish or long-term progression systems.

Bottom line

If you’re into roguelikes and want a quick, no-frills dungeon dive on Mac, Delver for Mac - Download for Mac is worth the download. It’s not going to win any awards, but it delivers exactly what it promises: a fresh, challenging adventure every time. Perfect for a 20-minute session between work tasks. Skip it if you hate permadeath or need hand-holding. But if you’re okay with some trial and error, you’ll probably end up hooked. Give it a shot - it’s free, after all.
