The good stuff

First off, the content library is legit stacked. I pulled up The Mandalorian one night and had zero lag - even on a sketchy Wi-Fi connection. The playback was smooth, and the 4K HDR option actually looked sharp on my phone screen. Also, the profile system is super handy. My kid has her own profile with cartoons, I’ve got mine with older Marvel movies, and my partner gets access to National Geographic docs. It’s like having three separate channels under one roof. And yeah, they do throw in some Fox content too - which surprised me. I found a few old X-Men episodes that weren’t on any other platform. The personalization is decent too. After watching a few Pixar films, it started recommending things like Inside Out and Ratatouille. Not perfect, but better than nothing.

The not-so-good

Here’s the thing - if you’re not into Disney, Marvel, or Star Wars, you’ll probably feel left out. There’s almost nothing here for adults who don’t care about animated classics or superhero sagas. I tried finding a recent Oscar-winning film, and nada. Even Netflix has more variety. And while the web app is fast, it doesn’t support offline downloads. So if you’re flying somewhere and want to watch Mulan on the plane, you’re out of luck unless you use the real app. Also, the interface feels a bit dated compared to Apple TV or Hulu. No slick swipe gestures, no dark mode (though it’s rumored to be coming). And the search function? Clunky. I searched “Lilo and Stitch” once and had to scroll through six pages before finding it.

Bottom line

If you’re a Disney fan, especially one who owns an iPhone and hates cluttering their home screen, Disney+ for iPhone for Web-apps is worth trying. It’s free to test, and the subscription’s cheap enough that it’s not a stretch. But if you’re looking for broad entertainment beyond Disney’s universe, this isn’t the place. Stick with it only if you’re already invested in the franchise. Otherwise, pass.
