EFI Boot Editor - Download

If you’ve ever stared at the scary command line to mess with your EFI boot entries, you know it’s not exactly user-friendly. EFI Boot Editor promises a graphical way to check and edit your Boot Manager settings without rebooting and fumbling around in a text interface. I gave it a shot because I wanted a straightforward, no-install tool to peek at my boot setup and maybe tweak a thing or two without risking a reboot loop.

The good stuff

The interface is surprisingly simple to get into. When you open it, everything’s laid out in a clear sidebar with your Windows Boot Manager, EFI devices, network boot options, and so on. I liked that you could see all entries in one place without rebooting or running cryptic commands. It shows useful info like description, boot path, and attributes, and even lets you peek at the data in HEX or Base64 if you’re into that kind of thing. That detail was cool for nerding out, but honestly, most users won’t care.

It’s free, portable, and doesn’t need installation, which means it’s handy if you want to carry a troubleshooting tool on a USB stick. Also, it reminded me of Visual BCD Editor but for EFI, which is useful if you’re already familiar with Windows boot edits and want to step into EFI without jumping blind.

The not-so-good

Here’s the thing - it feels pretty barebones. There’s no fancy wizard or safety net beyond a simple warning to create a restore point before messing around. If you don’t know what you’re doing, this tool won’t hold your hand at all. Also, the developer is unknown, and it’s got a low user rating (2/10 from just one vote), which made me extra cautious about using it on my main machine.

Some parts of the UI feel a bit clunky or outdated and it lacks any meaningful help or documentation built in. You basically have to know EFI boot concepts beforehand or risk screwing something up. If you want to do anything complex, I’d look elsewhere. UEFITool or even just using bcdedit from the command line might be safer and better supported.

Also, I can’t confirm if it fully supports all the latest EFI firmware variations. If your setup is unusual or very new, it might not work as expected.

Bottom line

EFI Boot Editor - Download for Windows is fine if you want a quick, free GUI for viewing and lightly tweaking your EFI Boot Manager on Windows. It’s portable and easy to run, but definitely aimed at users with some technical experience who don’t need fancy features or safety nets. If you’re a casual user or scared of boot errors, skip this or stick to better-known tools like UEFITool or Visual BCD Editor. For the price (free), it’s worth trying if you just want a peek at your boot entries without rebooting, but don’t expect a polished experience or help if you get stuck.
