Microsoft Edge for iPhone is a solid, if under-the-radar, browser that syncs well with Windows - worth trying if you're already in the Microsoft ecosystem.

So I downloaded Microsoft Edge on my iPhone after getting a new Surface laptop. I’d been using Chrome for years, but wanted something that actually worked with my Windows PC without feeling like a chore. Honestly, I didn’t expect much - it’s not like Edge has the same hype as Safari or Chrome - but it surprised me. The syncing between devices is weirdly smooth. I was mid-reading an article on my phone, walked over to my laptop, and boom - it popped up exactly where I left off. No fumbling, no logins, nothing. Just… there.

The good stuff

The Hub is honestly one of the better features. It’s like a central dashboard for your browsing life - bookmarks, reading list, history, all in one place. No more hunting through folders or remembering obscure URLs. And yeah, the camera search is kind of fun. I pointed it at a restaurant menu I took a photo of, and it pulled up the actual website and reviews. Not perfect, but way better than typing out "best ramen near me" when you’re standing in front of a sign.

Also, the InPrivate tabs work just like Chrome’s incognito mode - which is nice if you’re doing something private or just don’t want your history cluttering up the app. And voice search? I used it once to ask “Where’s the nearest coffee shop open now?” and it just… did it. No fuss.

The not-so-good

It’s not flashy. The design is clean, sure, but also kinda plain. If you’re used to Safari’s polish or Chrome’s speed, Edge feels a bit sluggish sometimes. I’ve had it freeze during page loads - not often, but enough to make me pause and wonder if it’s worth keeping.

And honestly, the login requirement feels heavy. You need a Microsoft account to unlock most features. That’s fine if you’re already in the ecosystem, but if you’re just testing it out, it’s a barrier. Also, the app doesn’t feel like it’s built specifically for iPhone - more like a web app that got wrapped into a native shell. There are some quirks, like how the tab management feels clunky compared to Safari’s swipe gestures.

Bottom line

If you’re using a Windows PC and want a browser that actually syncs across devices without drama, Microsoft Edge: Web Browser for iPhone is worth a shot. It’s free, it works, and it does what it promises. But if you’re just looking for a fast, standalone browser on your iPhone, stick with Safari or Chrome. This one’s best for people already deep in the Microsoft world. Download it if you want seamless PC-to-phone browsing - otherwise, skip it.
