The good stuff

What really sold me was the ability to save different mixes. Like, I have one setup for recording vocals (with headphones full of dry signal), another for jamming with my band (where I want more guitar in my mix). Switching between them is just a click. No rebooting, no reconfiguring. And the level sliders? Super responsive. I’m not kidding - I adjusted mic gain during a live stream and didn’t miss a beat. Also, the real-time monitoring toggle is a godsend when you’re testing mics or checking latency without opening your DAW.

The not-so-good

It’s not perfect. The UI is… functional, but nothing to write home about. Feels a bit dated compared to modern macOS apps. And it doesn’t do anything outside of basic routing and monitoring. If you’re looking for effects processing or advanced routing like you’d get in Ableton or Bitwig, this isn’t it. Also, it only works with Focusrite hardware - so if you’re using something else, skip it. And yeah, the download count is low, which makes sense - it’s niche. But if you own a Focusrite interface, it’s basically required.

If you’re using a Focusrite audio interface on Mac, Focusrite Control for Mac - Download for Mac is free, stable, and actually useful. It cuts out all the guesswork. You don’t need it if you’re just plugging in a USB mic, but if you’re doing any kind of serious recording or live tracking, it’s a solid addition to your toolkit. Not fancy, but it gets the job done.
