The not-so-good

Yeah, it’s old-school. The interface hasn’t changed since 2012, and it’s not exactly pretty. No tooltips, no drag-and-drop workflows. You’ll be clicking through menus like you’re in 2005. And forget trying to get help - the docs are sparse, and most tutorials assume you already know what a “normal vector” is. If you’re just starting out with 3D modeling, this isn’t the place. Also, it only runs on older Windows versions - XP up to whatever’s still supported. If you’re on Windows 11 and don’t have compatibility mode set up, you might hit a wall.

Bottom line

If you’re doing any kind of 3D scanning, printing, or working with messy polygonal models, MeshLab - Download for Windows is worth the download. It’s been around since 2012 and has over 9k downloads - that’s not a fluke. It’s not for everyone, but if you’re willing to wrestle with a dated UI for real results, it delivers. Free, reliable, and surprisingly capable. Just don’t expect a modern experience. And if you’re not doing anything with 3D meshes? Skip it. But if you are, you’ll thank yourself later.
