Dokan WPML for WordPress

The good stuff

Once I got all the required plugins installed - Sitepress Multilingual, WooCommerce Multilingual, Translation Management, Media, and String Translation - things actually worked. The language switcher showed up cleanly, and product names, descriptions, and even taxonomies translated properly. I remember editing a product in French and seeing the English version update instantly in the backend. It felt smooth, which was a relief because I’d had bad experiences with other translation plugins that broke layouts or lost data.

Also, managing translations through the WPML dashboard is straightforward. You can assign translators, track progress, and even upload .po files if you’re handling things in-house. For anyone already using WPML, this feels like a natural extension rather than a clunky add-on.

The not-so-good

Here’s the catch: you *must* have all those extra plugins. And some of them are paid. The free ones cover basics, but full translation management? That’s a subscription. So unless you’re already paying for WPML, this isn’t a cheap path to multilingual. Also, no URL parameters for language switching - so you can’t do site.com/?lang=fr. It only works with /fr/, /de/, etc. If your site structure doesn’t allow that, you’re stuck.

And yeah, it’s niche. This isn’t for beginners. If you’re just starting out, you might want to look at something simpler like Polylang. But if you’re already using WPML and need Dokan compatibility, this is the way to go. Otherwise, it’s overkill.

Bottom line

If you’re using WPML and running a multilingual WooCommerce store on Dokan, Dokan WPML for WordPress for Wordpress is worth it. It’s reliable and integrates well - but only if you’re already invested in the WPML suite. Don’t download it blind. And if you’re not already paying for WPML, skip it. It’s not free, and the setup’s not trivial. But for the right user? It works.
